Changing the Cultural Conversation
Welcome to my blog! I'm a writer and a graduate student passionate about disability rights and disability justice.
I hold a Master's degree in English from the University of California at Berkeley, where I taught freshman composition and sophomore literature as a graduate student instructor for three years. After graduate school, I began a fifteen-year career as a technical writer in the networking and telecommunications fields for such companies as Novell and Lucent Technologies. I'm currently pursuing my second Master's degree, this time in History and Culture, at Union Institute and University. My field of concentration is Disability Studies.
On this site, I'll share my reflections on my reading, analyze representations of disability in textual and visual media, and look at ideas for creating counter-representations that interrupt mainstream narratives.

I’m a long-time lurker; normally I follow you through RSS.
I’m also a pre-service teacher, and this week, I’ve been asked to rewrite a Unit of Work on ‘Success’ which was designed for teenage students on the Spectrum. I’m re-reading your book & blog, and others’, to make sure I don’t fall for the trap of explicitly instructing kids in How To Be NT or implicitly glamorising the neurotypical.
Could I make a request? I’d love to start with a few words from people with AS & ASD about the things they did in their teens which led to feeling successful. If you’re interested in responding, or you wouldn’t mind passing the request on to others, I’m asking for feedback via blog & twitter.

I’m new around here, found this page through the guest post at Dave Hingsburger’s blog.
